Multiple Hurt as In-Flight Disturbance Hits Delta Flight Landing at Sydney

Multiple passengers and crew have been injured following a Delta jet traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney was hit by rough air Friday morning.

Delta Flight 41 "encountered brief turbulence" as it touched down at the Sydney airport, a representative for the carrier informed. A number of the onboard staff were injured.

Local paramedics stated they evaluated five individuals, and transferred three to a medical facility with minor injuries that comprised pain in the back and headaches. Those affected spanned from their thirties and seventies.

This marks the most recent case of commercial jets encountering turbulence, with experts saying that shifting climate patterns is a key driver.

There were nearly 250 travelers and a crew of 15 on the aircraft, the official added, adding that the plane landed "without further incident" at Sydney Airport at shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday.

The NSW Ambulance Service reported they received a call just only 180 seconds ahead of the plane touched down, and response teams were ready and waiting at the airport.

Why plane turbulence is getting more common - and more severe.

Last year, twenty-five passengers and crew sustained injuries when a Delta Airlines flight, on a route from Salt Lake City, Utah to Amsterdam, Netherlands, hit "considerable" atmospheric disturbance just two hours into the long-haul flight, and was forced to make an unscheduled landing.

Earlier this year, travelers and staff on a Singapore Airlines jet went through a terrifying short but intense period of extreme instability. An individual passed away and numerous people sustained injuries, as individuals not fastened in rose out of their seats and were slammed back.

In-flight turbulence is fairly routine during flights, and while cases of significant turbulence seem to be rising, they are remained quite uncommon.
