The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy following the Rome competition and initial on a hard court since March of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has won 21 titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

His defensive play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an better service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour championship, took control to push for a final set.

He saved four initial opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
