Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior official commented the vandalism left him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
